Another Flashback

Howdy guys



I sewed up this flashback skinny tee a few weeks ago, you may have spotted it in the shorts post. I just hadnt gotten around to blogging about it, so here it is! :)



This tee is actually a size 4. I had intended it to be for Elijah.



The material is from an upcycled ladies tee. It was a boatneck tee and so I had no neckband to work with, so I cut it from the scraps I had left. But... because it doesn't have a lot of stretch, the neckband wouldn't go over Elijah's head!

Dana Made It Kids Shorts

Okay, now recently I have been sewing up a few simple items in an effort to try and catch up to my Make The Basics goal. I looked around for a simple shorts pattern and settled on the Dana Made It Kids Shorts.



I am really glad I chose them, Dana's pattern does not disappoint. Although very simple, it is exactly what I was looking for. 



This black pair was made from an old pair of jeans, purely as a test of the pattern. The back pockets were taken from a different pattern and turned out to be too small, but oh well. They are a straight size 4 and they are a great fit. I did change the hem seam allowance to fold 1" twice, so they are a tiny bit shorter.

Flashback Skinny Tees

First up are 3 Flashback Skinny Tees.



All three are up-cycles. This black and grey shirt was formerly my husbands. I bought it for him a long time ago but he never wore it, he is pretty fussy with shirts and complained that it was uncomfortable. I love it in this mini version! The back is a thicker stripe, I didn't get a picture so you will just have to take my word for it. ;)

Fancy Pants Shorts

I hope you all are enjoying the flood of Sew Fab posts in your feed, and I have another for you.

Sometimes, I get a bit of bloggy paralysis. I see the awesomeness that other sewing bloggers are posting and I have no idea how to compete. So I really tried not to think so hard about that this time.

I really wanted to sew up something from the sew fab bundle to show you guys. I also have a my Make The Basics deadline coming up (oh and KCW!), so I tried to combine a few goals in one. I cut out a bunch of t-shirts in preparation for KCW, had some knit scraps left and decided to use them up in some Fancy Pants Shorts, which is available in the Titchy Threads pattern shop.

W Pants

About a month or so ago, I was asked to help out pattern testing Blank Slate Patterns new W Pants.

When I first received the picture I wasn't quite sure what I thought of them, but I really love the finished product. Haha it doesn't look like Elijah likes them much, but his mood was not related to the pants ;)

Pajama Prefontaine Shorts

Hey guys, I am one of two Aussie stops on the Prefontaine Shorts World Tour today!

This tour has taken us all over the globe and I have seen some pretty awesome shorts on the way. Jill from Made With Moxie has made one super versatile shorts PDF. This pattern can be made from just about any material you can dream up. I wanted to try something that I hadnt seen just yet, some Pajama Prefontaines!

Make The Basics - Tragedy That Inspires A Sewing Challenge

Make The Basics is a challenge that I am setting myself to sew the basics for my kids this upcoming summer season. Lets chat firstly though, why am I setting this challenge?

Ombre Board Shorts - Bit Late To The Bandwagon

I have a quick project I want to share with you today. Have you been following along with the Shorts On The Line series? Even though it is currently winter here in Australia, I still wanted to whip up at least one pair of shorts to add to the Shorts On The Line Flickr Pool.


My family and friends now know that I am happy to accept the clothing that they no longer want. I was given a pretty cool pair of ombre board shorts and knew I wanted to resize them for Elijah.

Have you seen the awesome post by Rae a few days ago on making shorts with super seams? I used Rae's tutorial to shorten my free pajama pants sewing pattern very quickly into shorts. I cut open the old shorts and lined up the pattern so I could keep the industrial sewn hem and pocket.

Fancy Pants Leggings

I finally got back into the sewing room after all the excitement of my wedding. Just before all the craziness I had entered a giveaway over on Celina's blog, Petit a Petit and Family and I won :)

So of course I had to sew some Fancy Pants Leggings as soon as I got the chance!

All of these pants are upcycles. I have a huge pile of t-shirts to upcycle, and once I had seen the pair of leggings which Ros sewed up I knew I wanted to do the same.

KCW Wrap Up

So how did everyone go for this season of KCW?

Some bloggers have done an amazing job of producing lots of garments for their kids, others have struggled. I am in the second category. I also had a very difficult time with my picture taking!

This morning I made up for Sunday, because I did 0 minutes sewing on Sunday. Sunday is one day that is always guaranteed to be a busy day in this house. And anyway KCW is still going, its still day 7 in the US :)

Project Run and Play - Spring Formal Week

One of the themes for this season of Project Run and Play was Spring Formal Wear, and as soon as I saw that theme I knew I wanted to sew something up!

I own the Blank Slate Basic Blazer, so it was of course my obvious choice!

Tips For Sewing A Bucket Hat

After sewing 6 Oliver + S Bucket Hats, I kind of feel like a bucket hat expert! The hats are not perfect, but I challenge you to go and find a RTW hat that is. :)

First of all, I tried several methods to construct the hat, and I think that Jessica from A Little Gray has the easiest method by far. Go and see her tutorial for the full run-down. Basically you complete the main fabric hat and the lining hat separately, sew them right sides together around the brims, leaving a gap for turning right side out.

Since I was sewing so many bucket hats, I had some fun chaining. If you have never chained before, you should try it out!

Oliver + S Bucket Hats x 6

Do you ever take on a project thinking it is the BEST idea ever, only to later regret starting in the first place?

I kind of got that feeling with this project! 6 hats in a row... I am the type to jump around from project to project, rarely repeating one. 4 of these hats were for gifts.

The pattern was the Free Oliver + S Bucket Hat. I had heard some stories about it being too small, and the seams not lining up. I am happy to report that I had no such trouble, and I sewed them up in 3 sizes.
