Quilted Mat Sew Along - Finished!

I finished my quilted mat! Yay for finishing! Not so yay for the rest.

Ros hosted an awesome sew along, at the end of it I can honestly say I am no quilter.

My backing fabric was totally misaligned after quilting so I had to trim the edges back. Then the binding turned out horrid, it was terrible terrible cheap binding.  I have learned so many quilty lessons from this little mat!

I think I will stick to clothing for a while longer. How did you all go? xx

  1. Aw, you did well!! It's a great little project to get started in quilting, teaching some good basic skills. As you said, you've learnt some lessons for next time!

  2. It looks good - don't give up on quilting!
It's just the binding's stretched on one side when you've sewn it on, other than that it's great :-)

I think the backing moving is a normal thing. I didn't cut mine until after I'd quilted so I have no idea how much it might have shifted - perhaps that's a good thing!

I finished mine. I too can see where I could have done better but I think that's just my inner perfectionist!

  3. It looks good! As I've practiced I've done better and better. I've noticed a real decline in the quality of store bought binding so next time I will definitely make my own - one of those bias binding tools is top of my list for next time I go and do some sewing related shopping!

  6. Did you use an ordinary foot for to do your binding - that might have pulled one side a bit more?

  10. A finished item is still a finished item and as long as you've learned lessons then you can be proud. Besides, I think it looks amazing!!!
